Things to see and do in Venice, Italy with limited time

Venice Canal

My entire life I’ve been drawn to water. Whether it be the swimming pool in my backyard or cooling off in Atlantic on a hot Florida summer day, being in water is my happy place. Knowing this makes it very easy to understand why Venice, Italy is perhaps the most magical place I’ve ever been. In fact, so magical it brought me to tears. More on that later.

The canals of Venice Beach, California

My short visit to Venice, Italy was one of the most amazing experiences in my life. While I may be nowhere near the shops and canals of Venice, I do live a short drive away from Venice Beach, California. Considering I have lived in California for seven years, it’s quite surprising that I’d yet to venture to Venice Beach.

There are not as many canals as they are used to be, but they are still worth visiting and photographing.

The eclectic artwork of Venice, California

Unique artwork is around nearly every corner in Venice, California. I recently took a day to photograph as much of the artwork as I could find. Here’s a look at some of my favorite pieces that I found.

The above artwork is clearly inspired by Vincent van Goh’s Starry Night. I loved the vibrant colors that really make this artwork stand out on this building. I intentionally shot this so that it would be difficult to tell that it is on a building. However, this artwork is the entire side of a large building. You won’t be able to miss it if you are walking along the Venice Beach shops.

I’m not entirely sure what is going on in the artwork above, but it made me laugh and I like the bright colors that bring it to life.

One of the first things I think of when I hear Venice Beach is people working out. I just can’t see myself working out on show like these folks, but they clearly were craving the attention that tourist were all to eager to give them.

Carrot and Carob Pupcakes and Cookies to celebrate Eva’s 10th birthday

Evacollage

Today marks Eva’s 10th birthday. Eva is my Jack Russell Terrier in the pictures above.

I don’t typically do anything special for my dog’s birthday, but she turns ten tomorrow so we thought we would get her a few toys and make her some special treats. The first thing I made was Carrot and Carob Pupcakes topped with peanut butter frosting. If you want to try making it for your pup you can get the recipe on Bakingdom.
